I have joined UPAA and since joining them I have connected with many other higher education photographers around the country and world. It has been really exciting seeing other photographer’s work and it has pushed me every day to create better images for Knox.
Every month, the group has an image contest. I have entered the three times that have been available. So far, I haven’t finished in the top 5 for any image, but I have placed as high as tenth last month. Every time I seem to improve a bit more. The October image competition voting will be starting in a few days, but I wanted to share the images I have entered.
Please let me know what you think about these images. I welcome all positive and negative critiques. Thank you for taking a look. I also encourage you to go over to the UPAA website and check out what the other great photographers in the group are up to in the competition.
Last night I covered a candle light vigil for Tundun Lawani who was killed two weeks ago on campus in a hit-and-run. Despite the heavy winds that blew out most candles during the walk, the spirits were high in remembering Lawani. The variety of memorial events and different things students have been doing over the past two weeks has been very moving and it has been great to see all the students and other Knox community members come together to support each other in this difficult time.
Even though I never knew Tundun, this time has been very tough for me. Just seeing fellow members struggle as well as losing anyone in the Knox community is rough for all of us. I hope my work to cover these events will help everyone remember how our community joined together to support one another.
What a great day. Well besides the loss. It was a fun game to photograph at the Bronze Turkey Game. It is just amazing how long this rivalry has been going on for. Here are a few images from today’s game. I am happy with the shots I got and feel free to head over to Knox College’s Flickr to see more of the images.
Please leave me a comment to get me to start posting more regularly. And let me know what you think.
Tonight I shot a game at Galesburg High School for fun. And boy was it a fun game! Double overtime and numerous exciting plays throughout the game. Here are 9 shots from the day. Please let me know what you think of these shots. I welcome any critiques or comments.
On Saturday I covered a great soccer game against Monmouth that spelled victory for Knox. Above is a shot from the game. Enjoy and let me get to the main reason for this post.
This weekend I have been busy working on a website redesign. With this redesign, my blog comes back from where it currently resides at www.johnwphotos.wordpress.com. I am happy about this return because it will allow my blog to have more features, like embedded audio slideshows.
The downside is that former posts won’t be moved over here due to a change in format that makes old posts look very poor.
The redesign will likely mean changes for a while and an eventual removal of the old version of my site once I have this one all settled.
