Over the past few months I have been using Instagram to grow my photographic creativity. I can easily become stuck in a rut focusing on one photographic style, but the use of my cell phone has helped me try different things and not focus on the images being perfectly in focus or composed the best.
It has also let me capture more of my personal life. Certainly I could carry around my SLR gear 24/7, but that would become more of a burden, while using Instagram is easy, quick, and not cumbersome.
It took me a bit to get me hooked and get over the negative stereotypes about Instagram, but I am glad I made the leap. I do wish I had an iPhone so the images would be better resolution since my Android phone doesn’t seem to produce as high resolution.
Because of this lack of quality image on my end as well as the ease to alter the image, I would be hesitant to use these photos in a photojournalist/professional manner. Certainly I have seen them used professionally, and often in a great way, but until I have an iPhone in my hand I will use Instagram in a personal manner.
